Sprain, Nerves and Soft Tissue Injuries

A sprain is an injury which occurs to ligaments caused by a sudden overstretching. Usually the ligament is usually only stretched but sometimes it can snapped, slightly torn or ruptured, all of which are more serious and takes longer time to heal. A strain, on the other hand, is an injury to a muscle or tendon in which the muscle or tendon fibers is over stretched. The muscle or tendons can tear if they are overstretched.

Nerves are the "electrical wiring" system in our body. It is like an electrical cable wrap in insulation. It is protected by a ring of tissue. Nerves are fragile and can be seriously injured or even broken when part of the body receives traumatic injury.

In olden days in China, how did the Shoalin Martial Art (kungfu) masters and students treat their injuries when they have to be subjected to extremely strenuous exercise? For them traumatic injuries are common. If they have to wait and let time do the healing each time they are injured they would never graduate as kungfu masters.

TCM has a class of herbs for such problems. This group of herbs Rehmannia Glutinosa, Prunus Persica, Acanthopanax Gracilistylus, Cinnamonium Cassia, Rhizoma Notopterygii and Rheum Palmatum are commonly called Kungfu herbs. They are designed to remove blood stasis, reduced swelling and rejuvenate and restore injured nerves, tendons, ligaments and muscles.
